Jerry Buhlmann gives his views on the advertising industry including the consolidations currently taking place such as the Dentsu merger with Aegis, and how to embrace Japanese culture. He also gives us an insight into the impact online trends such as mobile, social, big data, e-commerce transactions, content videos are having on the advertising industry.
Jerry started his career at Young & Rubicam before moving to WCRS. In 1989 he founded BBJ, later renamed Vizeum, in the UK and built the agency business before it was acquired by Aegis Media in 1999. From 2000 to 2003 Jerry held the position of CEO of Carat International, responsible for the network’s international clients. He was promoted in 2003 to the position of CEO Aegis Media EMEA until May 2008 when he was promoted again to the position of CEO Aegis Media taking global responsibility for the largest of the two divisions of Aegis Group plc, at the same time as being appointed as a PLC Board Director. Jerry was appointed Chief Executive of Aegis Group plc in March 2010.
Following the acquisition of Aegis Group plc by Dentsu Inc. in 2013, Jerry was appointed CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network which covers all of Aegis Media and Dentsu operations outside of Japan. In July 2013 Jerry became only the second non-Japanese Executive Officer of Dentsu Aegis Network.
Additional note to the Video: Publicis and Omnicom merger didn’t go ahead in May 2014. Main reason explained on French newspapers (from Publicis) was opinions divergence on the financial director appointment.
